SUMITOMO RUBBER MAKES FINALIST IN 3 CATEGORIES AT THE 2017 EXPORTER AWARDS
This announcement was officiated by the Durban Chamber of Commerce and main sponsor Transnet Port Terminals recently.
The prestigious Exporter Awards are aimed at recognising key role players in the exporter industry and to highlight the importance of driving economic growth through exports for South Africa.
Sumitomo Rubber South Africa (Pty) Ltd has been named as a finalist in the following categories: Large Exporter of the year, Africa Exporter and Manufacturing Exporter.
“The KZN Exporter awards are an opportunity for us as SRSA to highlight our involvement and substantial contribution to the South African and more importantly the KZN economy”, said Lubin Ozoux, Director of International Business at SRSA.
“In 2015, our export sales accounted for 26% of total sales units and we have managed to increase this to 28% in 2016. We have achieved this through strategic actions within our existing markets and successfully attained several new markets in 2016” he continued to say.
The increase in SRSA’s exporting abilities is directly linked to Sumitomo Rubber over R1 billion investment into their Ladysmith factory in the last 3 years, with a further R1 billion going towards extending their local production into the truck and bus market. New machinery and technologies representing some of the finest available globally have been introduced, as well as significant investment in people, processes and infrastructure.
The main event is scheduled to take place on the 19 October at the Durban International Convention Centre.
